In today’s lesson we started Act 4 with Mr Waugh.

Paris is trying to rush the marriage so that Juliet will stop thinking about Tybalt who has died not long ago.

The play states:

“And in his wisdom hastes our marriage
To stop the inundation of her tears”
However Juliet enters when Paris and Friar Lawrence are having the conversation and Paris greets her by saying:
“Happily met, my lady and my wife.” Meaning I’m glad to meet you my wife, my lady.
I don’t think Juliet is in the mood to get married as she answers in a sour way saying:
” That may be, sir, when I may be a wife.” Meaning that she NOT his wife, until they are married.
They finish a long conversation. In the end Paris exits leaving Friar Lawrence alone with her.
She knows shes in a right mess:  “O, shut the door! And when thou hast done so,
Come weep with me, past hope, past cure, past help.”
In the end Juliet decides that if she winds up marrying Paris it leaves her know choice but to kill herself.
